OnePlus 16 Launched in China: 185Hz Display, 200MP Camera and Massive Battery
OnePlus is unveiling the OnePlus 16 in China today. The company confirmed the October 12 launch date, and it revealed much of the hardware in teasers beforehand. Review units have not reached reviewers yet, so this article separates confirmed specs from reports. We will update it as final pricing and complete spec sheets are published after the event.

Display: 185Hz, but Only in Games
The screen is the phone’s main highlight. OnePlus confirmed a BOE X4 LTPO OLED panel with 1.5K resolution and a peak refresh rate of 185Hz. There is an important catch: the maximum 185Hz works only in gaming mode. Everyday use, such as navigation and browsing, runs at 165Hz system-wide.
That split is sensible, since holding the highest refresh rate all day would drain the battery. OnePlus also says the panel’s power draw is comparable to that of a 120Hz display. For dark rooms, it can drop to 1 nit of hardware brightness and carries TÜV Rheinland Smart Eye Protection 6.0. OnePlus has also shared a list of games with native 185fps support.
Performance and Gaming Hardware
The phone runs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. This is the higher tier of the chip, and its GPU has Matrix Cores that only the Extreme version gets. OnePlus adds hardware beyond the main chip: separate touch and Wi-Fi chips meant to cut latency and keep connections steadier.
The platform supports 8K60 video, 4K240 slow-motion, and the APV codec, but OnePlus has not confirmed whether those options are enabled. Memory is also unsettled. Reports mention up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, yet sources disagree on the memory type. One report says the phone uses LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1, while others mention LPDDR6. Wait for the official spec sheet before relying on either.
Cameras: A Big Step Up on Paper
OnePlus has confirmed a triple rear camera setup:
- Main: 200MP with a 1/1.4-inch sensor
- Telephoto: 50MP, 3x optical zoom, Sony IMX882
- Ultrawide: 50MP
The confirmed software features include an XPAN-style mode and a Master Mode. A larger main sensor can collect more light, which usually helps in dim scenes. Final image quality still depends on tuning and processing, so wait for real-world tests.
A 50MP autofocus selfie camera has been tipped, but OnePlus has not officially confirmed it. We will move it to the confirmed list only if the company announces it.
Battery and Charging
Most flagships in 2026 carry smaller batteries, so a 9,000mAh cell stands out. Official teasers point to this capacity alongside 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. One report adds that the battery is managed by Oppo’s low-voltage energy silicon.
Capacity alone does not decide battery life. Refresh rate, chip efficiency, and software tuning all matter. Screen-on time, full charging time, and heat will need hands-on testing, which we have not done yet.
Design, Colors, and Durability
Pre-order listings show three colors: Dark Forest, Martian Masterpiece, and Tomorrow Starlight. The Tomorrow Starlight version has a breathing light in the rear panel that lights up the logo and celestial coordinates.
For protection, OnePlus lists IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, plus Oppo’s Crystal Shield Glass for added protection. Other listed details are tri-frequency GPS, quad-frequency BeiDou, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, and support for the n79 band. The n79 band mainly matters for Chinese 5G networks, another sign the phone is built for its home market.
Availability: Will It Come to India?
At present, the phone is announced only for China. OnePlus has not given official word on a US or Europe release. It is not expected in those markets after OnePlus’s exit from them. For India, one report says the phone may skip the country entirely. Treat any Indian release date as unconfirmed until OnePlus announces one.
Expected Price
OnePlus had not published official pricing at the time of writing. An earlier rumor suggested around 5,000 yuan (about $690), but this was never confirmed. We will add official prices after the China launch event.
Verdict
On paper, the OnePlus 16 is one of the most aggressive Android flagships of 2026. It combines a high-refresh gaming display, a large main sensor, a very big battery, and strong water protection. However, camera quality, sustained performance, heat, and real battery life will only become clear once review units are tested. Treat this as a strong spec sheet, not a final verdict.
